A 17-year-old boy has been charged with uttering threats in connection with an incident that led to a secure the building at two Regina high schools on Monday.

Police were alerted on Monday that an 18-year-old student at Balfour Collegiate had received a threat through social media. As a result, Balfour officials put the school into a secure the building mode, as did Miller Comprehensive Catholic High School because of its proximity.

Exterior doors were locked at both schools, while classes continued inside. The secure the building was lifted at about 2:30 p.m.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested on Monday without incident. He has been charged with uttering threats in connection with the case.  The teen cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He will appear in Youth Court on Feb. 25.
