The jury trial of Jason Dunlop continued Tuesday in Regina.

Dunlop is accused of injuring a police officer on May 14, 2014. At the time, Dunlop was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for breaching his parole.

The injured officer, Const. Kevin Harris, took to the stand as a crown witness Tuesday morning. Harris was working as a plainclothes officer at the time.

Harris, along with Sgt. Brent Shannon, approached Dunlop’s vehicle, a stolen white Ford F350 pickup truck with Alberta plates in the 1800 block of Angus Street.

Harris testified that he was approaching the vehicle and thought Dunlop was going to surrender. Instead, Dunlop reversed the truck he was driving into Harris’ unmarked police vehicle. Harris was pinned between the two vehicles.

He suffered multiple fractures to his left leg, which required surgery at the time of the accident. Further issues led to an ankle reconstruction surgery eight weeks ago.

He has not been active in the force since the incident.

The crown also called Sergeant Brent Shannon to the stand. Shannon was with Harris at the time of the incident. He was in the vehicle when Dunlop hit Harris.

The unmarked police vehicle was dragged several feet by Dunlop’s truck before Shannon was able to disengage and Dunlop drove away.

The trial is expected to wrap up early next week.
