Regina airport officials and city police say a dozen incidents in which a laser pointer was aimed into the cockpit of an airplane have been reported so far in 2013.

The Regina Airport Authority and the Regina Police Service say aiming the blinding light at an airplane is hazardous to pilots and threatens the safety of passengers.

Authorities are reminding the public that it’s a federal offence to point a laser into the cockpit of an aircraft while it's in flight.

A conviction under the Aeronautics Act can carry a maximum fine of $100,000 and up to five years in prison.
