Two men plead guilty to manslaughter in 2016 death

Two men pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 2016 death of Mackenzie Parker Keshane on Wednesday morning.
Jeremiah Theodore Stonechild was given a 26-year sentence and Cody Michael Gordon received a 12-year sentence.
An 18-month sentence for assault causing bodily harm for an incident while in custody in 2018 will run concurrently with the manslaughter sentence for Gordon.
The Crown and defence submitted the sentences as a joint recommendation. It was accepted by the judge “without hesitation.”
In an opportunity to address the court, Stonechild said he is “sorry for all the pain I caused,” and also apologized for the trust he broke with Keshane and his family.
Stonechild added he hopes to learn from the experience and become a better man.
Keshane’s aunt told the court after Stonechild’s statement that she believes he is remorseful and forgives him.
Keshane was 19-years-old at the time of his death. His body was found in a Montreal Street home in Sept. 2016.
Gordon and Stonechild were originally charged with first-degree murder.
