A Calgary radio show host has been suspended for on-air comments he made about the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Earlier this week, Dean “Boomer” Molberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan told listeners he wanted the plane carrying the Riders to crash and four players to die.

Molberg has since apologized for the comments, which sparked outrage on social media and online forums.

On Friday, the radio station posted a statement on its Facebook page, saying Molberg has been suspended through the end of the CFL season.

“Sportsnet 960 The FAN does not condone comments made early Wednesday morning by Dean Molberg regarding the Saskatchewan Roughriders football organization,” the station’s program director Kelly Kirch said in the statement.

“Sportsnet 960 The FAN deeply regrets the incident and will be making a donation to the Saskatchewan Roughriders charity of choice.”
