Replacement of two traffic bridges on Victoria Avenue east will now be delayed until next summer despite what appears to be a worsening dip in the road.

Semi-trailer truck traffic was briefly banned last year after a city engineering study deemed the bridge unsafe for heavy loads. The Highways Ministry overruled that opinion and truck traffic resumed.

The pair of bridges over Pilot Butte Creek were to be replaced by large culverts this winter.

The city says construction will now be delayed until summer as it considers widening the busy stretch of TransCanada highway from four lanes to six.

In the meantime, the city says the sagging bridge deck is being monitored and remains safe to traffic.
