A man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant is in custody facing more charges following a police chase near Prince Albert.
Police say they were called to a motel on Highway 2 south of the city Thursday night to remove an unwelcome guest from one of the rooms.
Officers recognized the man as 41-year-old Robert Bailey, who was wanted for parole violations.
When police attempted to arrest Bailey, an altercation erupted and one officer was injured but he did not require any medical treatment.
Bailey fled and police pursued his vehicle south on Highway 2 to Highway 11 and then into the rural areas around MacDowell and Duck Lake.
The chase ended when RCMP took out the vehicle’s tires with spike strips. Bailey fled on foot and was apprehended in a wooded area by a police canine unit.
He faces several new charges, including assaulting a police officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failing to stop for police, resisting arrest and possession of cocaine.
His first court appearance was scheduled for Friday morning.
