Statistics Canada says wheat and canola production is expected to be lower in Saskatchewan this year compared to the bumper crops in 2013.

Wheat production is expected to decline 26.9 per cent to 13.4 million tonnes in the province, the agency said Friday. The average yield is anticipated to fall 19 per cent to 38.8 bushels per acre.

Canola farmers in Saskatchewan expect a 20.2 per cent drop in the average yield this year, and production is predicted to decrease 22.9 per cent to 6.9 million tonnes.

Nationally, wheat production is expected to fall 26.8 per cent to 27.5 million tonnes, while canola production is anticipated to decline 21.6 per cent to 14.1 million tonnes.
