People in Saskatchewan had better bundle up – bitterly cold wind chills are expected across much of the province.

Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for most of Saskatchewan, including Regina and Saskatoon.

An Arctic ridge of high pressure is predicted to bring temperatures near -30 C on Tuesday night. The cold temperatures, combined with winds of 10 to 15 kilometres an hour, are expected to produce wind chills of -40 or colder.

The extreme cold temperatures are expected to moderate over Saskatchewan on Wednesday morning.

A fast-moving weather system is forecast to bring milder air into the area Wednesday afternoon and evening, but it could be accompanied by light snow and blowing snow.

The weather agency says more extreme cold conditions are likely in the wake of the system Thursday morning.
