Damaged pole caused large power outage in southeast Regina
SaskPower says the majority of customers in southeast Regina have power once again after a pole was damaged following an accident early Wednesday morning.
On its website, SaskPower said power has been restored to all affected customers except for those on the 2100 block of Osler Street and Broad Street.
SaskPower is estimating that the remainder of customers affected should have power restored by 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
Residents in the General Hospital area told CTV News they heard a loud bang around 6 a.m. on Wednesday when they lost power.
According to some in the area, a semi hit the pole or snagged the power line causing the damage, in an email SaskPower confirmed that was the cause of the outage.
Regina police and fire were called to the scene, but SaskPower said it is part of standard procedure, adding there was no injuries or damage to property beyond the semi and pole.
Video sent to CTV News showed a damaged power pole on 13th Avenue near Broad Street.
According to SaskPower, electricity was knocked out to residents in Broders Annex, Al Ritchie, Assiniboia East, General Hospital, Dominion Heights and Gladmer Park.
