Regina’s executive committee has unanimously voted to forge ahead with a controversial long-term plan to annex land in the urban-rural fringe surrounding the city.

Representatives from Dundee Developments and Regina’s Chamber of Commerce spoke in favour of the proposal at Wednesday’s meeting.

But councillors also heard from some people who said the city’s projection that Regina’s population will grow to 500,000 over the next 50 years is overly optimistic.

At a news conference earlier this week, the Rural Municipality of Sherwood said it had never been consulted about the city’s annexation plan.

City council is expected to consider the proposal at its next meeting on June 10.
