Chappell Roan 'looking at venues' for possible Sask. show

American singer-songwriter Chappell Roan is expressing some interest towards performing in Saskatchewan – after shouting out the province in a yet to be released song.

In a conversation with well-known celebrity interviewer Nardwuar on Dec. 15, Roan was asked about the land of the living skies.

"Saskatchewan, its in one of my new songs that hasn’t come out yet. It’s called The Subway," the performer explained.

"I was looking at venues to try and play a show there. I owe it to them. I can’t sing a song about Saskatchewan and not go there and play a show."

Roan debuted the unreleased song while performing at the Governor’s Ball in June, expressing a desire to leave the big city behind and move to Saskatchewan.

The 26-year-old artist from Missouri has gained considerable fame in the past year.

Her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess did not enjoy immediate commercial success – but rather gained a cult following by early 2024 and was even nominated for Album of the Year at the 67th Grammy Awards.

'The Subway' is rumoured to be a track on her second album, which has yet to be released.

Roan’s musical style has been described as being inspired by 1980s synth pop and 2000s pop, with heavy influences from her experiences in the queer scene. The same experiences have shaped her on-stage persona, modeled after drag queen aesthetics.

Nardwuar, best known for his off-the-cuff guerilla-style interviews with musicians of all genres and influences, is originally from Vancouver.
