Jon Hromek resigns as Sask. United Party leader

Jon Hromek has resigned as the leader of the Saskatchewan United Party (SUP).

According to an emailed statement on Tuesday, Hromek said he won’t be moving forward with the party, a decision he said was not made lightly.

“I have spent countless hours listening to you — at town halls, on doorsteps, and in the streets. Your voices, your stories, and your hopes for our province have inspired me deeply. It has been an honor to stand alongside you in the fight for a better Saskatchewan,” his statement read.

While the SUP did not win any seats in October’s provincial election, Hromek noted that placing third in the province overall “reflects a growing desire for change among the people of Saskatchewan.”

In his statement, Hromek did not say what is next for him, but did say his resignation is merely a new beginning.

He stated that he believes in the province’s ability to collaborate and rise to challenges and expressed his thanks to everyone who supported his campaign.

During his campaign, Hromek hoped to attract voters who were disenchanted with the Saskatchewan Party. He campaigned on low taxes, small government, and a return to "fiscal responsibility" in the province.

Hromek recently served as the CEO and Chairman of Regina headquartered Adonai Resources II Corporation. He also notably provided $200,000 of his own money to the party.

A statement from party president Dwight Bunyan thanked Hromek for his efforts building the party and to his commitment to Saskatchewan people.

“His leadership and vision will have a lasting impact on this party and the province,” he said.

Hromek took over the leadership role after previous SUP leader Nadine Wilson stepped down in May 2024.

The party did not name a successor in their statement on Tuesday.
