Man, woman from Winnipeg charged in death of RCMP officer
Two people are facing manslaughter charges in the death of RCMP Const. Shelby Patton.
Patton, 26, initiated a stop with a stolen truck in the town of Wolseley, Sask., around 8 a.m. local time Saturday. He was struck by the vehicle and later died at the scene.
Alphonse Stanley Traverse, 41, and Marlene Velma Louise Pagee, 42, both from Winnipeg are charged with manslaughter, failure to stop after an accident resulting in death, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property over $5,000 and breach of undertaking for leaving Manitoba.
They appeared in Regina Provincial Court on Monday morning, and both matters were adjourned. Pagee and Traverse both nodded to show they understand the charges. The Crown is opposed to both their releases and was granted a non-contact order between the two suspects.
If Pagee wants to be released she can apply to the court and can have a bail hearing or enter a plea.
Pagee will be back on court June 18 at 2 p.m. and Traverse will return June 21 at 2 p.m.
