Looking to free up more experience gaining ice time for their younger, developing players, the Regina Pats have traded veteran 20-year-old forward Tye Spencer to the Wenatchee Wild.

For Spencer, the Pats receive a 7th round draft pick in 2024.

“The priority in this deal was to give a great kid, the opportunity to finish his career in the WHL, and open up further opportunities for our group of young forwards,” Pats’ general manager Alan Millar said in a news release.

Spencer, a Saskatoon product, was originally drafted in the third round of the 2019 WHL Prospects Draft by the Kamloops Blazers. The Pats acquired his services via trade in January 2022.

So far in 2024-25, Spencer has nine goals and 12 assists in 33 games.

Spencer played a total of 163 games with the Pats, picking up 49 goals and 47 assists during that time. He also recorded three points in seven playoff games in 2023.

Since the start of the 2024-25 season the Pats have made a total of 12 trades, including Friday's deal involving Spencer.

The Pats head to Alberta for games against Red Deer on Saturday and Calgary on Sunday. They’ll be in Moose Jaw Jan. 10 before hosting Portland on Jan. 11.
