The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced late Sunday they’ve let go of quarterback Tino Sunseri.

Sunseri stepped in last season after an injury in the banjo bowl sidelined starting quarterback Darian Durant. The backup quarterback had a yo-yo season after trying out the starting spot and was one of 11 players cut following the team’s first pre-season loss on Friday.

Shortly after the Riders announced his release, Sunseri tweeted, " Can't beging to explain how much I enjoyed playing in front of Rider Nation. You guys make it a special place and the experience will always stick with me. I know everything happens for a reason and I'm excited for the next step."

The following players were released:

Terrance Cobb
Darwin Cook
Eltoro Freeman
Joash Gesse
Terry Hart
Kolodzinski
Michael Philipp
Tino Sunseri
Eric Thomas
Cody Thornton
Ryan Wellman

The Riders also sent Matthew Halbgewachs, Matt Kozun and Evan Turkington back to junior football, and Noah Picton returned to school.
