An environment official says an oil spill from a tanker truck that rolled on an icy stretch of southern Saskatchewan highway did not end up in a lake that supplies drinking water for two cities.

Wes Kotyk, a spokesman for the Environment Ministry, says there is no risk of any oil from a more than 1,000-litre spill getting into Buffalo Pound Lake because of snowbanks along the highway.

Buffalo Pound Lake supplies water for Regina and Moose Jaw.

The spill happened Wednesday night when a semi hauling two trailers hit a guard rail and rolled over on Highway 2 between Moose Jaw and Chamberlain.

Kotyk says a vacuum truck is cleaning up oil on the road, while other crews work to drain what's left in the rolled-over tankers.

The driver of the truck was taken to hospital, but is said to be in good condition.
