A house fire in Moose Jaw Thursday night is being blamed on a cigarette.

Fire crews were called to a house fire on the 500 block of Stadacona Street West just before 8:00 p.m. Thursday. There was one man in the home when the fire started, but Moose Jaw Police said he suffered only minor burns to one of his hands and was treated by EMS on the scene.

The fire was put out, but crews were called back to the home just before 3:00 a.m. after a neighbour reported the fire had started again.

In a news release, the Moose Jaw Police said the fire isn’t considered suspicious and that it’s believed the fire was started by a cigarette left on a mattress.
