The only bar in Lafleche has burned to the ground, just a few months after a fire destroyed another business in the small southern Saskatchewan community.

Firefighters were called to the Flying Goose Inn after a waitress smelled smoke just after 9 p.m. Tuesday night.

The town’s fire chief, Maurice Bouvier, says the fire is believed to have started in a smoking area on the side of the building.

The flames quickly spread up through the walls and into the second and third floors.

Fire crews from Gravelbourg and Kincaid helped battle the blaze into the early morning, but they were unable to save the business.

Two people were inside at the time, and no one was hurt.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

In February, a fire destroyed Merchandise on Main, a store and coffee shop in the small community, located about 200 kilometres southwest of Regina.
