Police have laid charges after allegations a teacher at Estevan Comprehensive School was involved in sexual misconduct.

The Estevan Police Service was contacted by officials from the South East Cornerstone Public School Division about the allegations on Feb. 8.

Police executed several search warrants as part of the investigation and arrested Troy Ruzicka, 42, on March 3.

Ruzicka has been charged with five counts of child luring, three counts of sexual exploitation, one count of aggravated sexual assault, one count of sexual assault, one count of transmission of child pornography and one count of accessing child pornography. The case involves three teenage girls.

“It’s concerning, without a doubt,” Paul Ladouceur, chief of the Estevan Police Service, told CTV News on Monday. “It speaks volumes that the school division brought this to our attention and the hard work that our members are doing to make sure that the investigation is followed through.”

According to the school division, Ruzicka is a shop teacher and has been with the division for five years.

Ruzicka remains in custody and will appear in court in Estevan on Monday.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Estevan Police Service at 306-634-4767.
