A man is facing multiple charges after ramming into an RCMP vehicle near Canora, Sask. on Thursday night.

Officers were conducting a traffic stop on Highway 5 west of Canora around 11:25 p.m. According to police, a vehicle pulled over and then reversed into a police vehicle. The suspect vehicle then turned around and rammed the police vehicle again head-on, police said in a news release.

The man driving the vehicle, and lone occupant, got out of the vehicle carrying an axe and hit the police vehicle while yelling threats. Back-up units came from Canora and Kamsack, and the suspect was arrested.

The suspect and two police officers sustained minor injuries. The police vehicle sustained extensive damage.

Kristopher-Lee Steenman, 34, from Buchanan, Sask. is facing multiple charges, including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, assaulting a police officer and impaired operation of a motor vehicle. He will appear in Yorkton Provincial Court on Monday morning.
