Charges are pending for a man who was caught trying to smuggle drugs into the Regina police detention cells last week.

Police say a 37-year-old man came into Regina police headquarters on Sept. 26 and said he wanted to turn himself in for breaching his curfew. The man was taken into custody and placed in a detention cell.

Police say he was acting strangely and officers believed he may have been hiding drugs so that he could smuggle them into the Regina Correctional Centre. Officers learned the man was hiding drugs in his body and he was taken to hospital to have them safely removed.

The man was remanded into custody of Correctional Centre staff and police say charges are pending.
