The historic Hotel Saskatchewan in downtown Regina is being bought by Temple Hotels in a $32.8 million deal announced Wednesday.

In a news release, Temple said it plans to spend $6 million on renovations to the guest rooms and lobby of the iconic hotel over a three-year period.

The acquisition is expected to close at the end of March.

The 10-storey hotel, which opened in 1927, was originally part of a chain of hotels built and owned by Canadian Pacific Railway.

It will be Temple’s fourth property in Saskatchewan. The company’s chain of hotels includes the Wingate by Wyndham in Regina and Temple Gardens Mineral Spa Resort in Moose Jaw.
