A councillor in the Rural Municipality of Sherwood is refusing to step down amid calls for his resignation.

A recent investigation by the provincial ombudsman ended with a recommendation that Tim Probe be removed from his position as councillor.

A written statement issued on behalf of the councillor reads: "Tim Probe will not be voluntarily resigning from the RM of Sherwood council,” and that "he will defend that decision before the courts if necessary."

The statement goes on to say "it has been a very trying and frustrating time for him and his family, but he is confident the courts will find in his favour when all the facts in the case finally come to light."

Last October, Probe was charged with breach of trust and corruption in connection with an unrelated matter.

The case remains before the courts, and details on exactly what he is accused of have not yet been made public.
