Some severe weather is making its way across much of southern Saskatchewan.
There was a brief tornado warning for Moosomin, Grenfell, Kipling, and Wawota, but Environment Canada has since reduced that to a severe thunderstorm watch. There are also severe thunderstorm warnings in place for Carlyle, Oxbow, Carnduff, Bienfait, and Stoughton.
Environment Canada has also noted that conditions are favourable in several other areas for funnel clouds or weak tornados. Tornado watches are in effect for Kindersley, Rosetown, Biggar, Wilkie, Macklin, Martensville, Warmen, Rosthurn, Delisle, Wakaw, Moose Jaw, PEnse, Central Butte, Craik, Outlook, Watrous, Hanley, Imperial, and Dinsmore.
Funnel clouds form out of large cumulus clouds or very weak thunderstorms, and Environment Canada said they normally don’t have the energy to reach the ground.
Much of south central Saskatchewan is under severe thunderstorm watches as well, and these storms have the potential to bring damaging winds and large hail.
Environment Canada said they’re monitoring the systems closely. If anyone sees funnel clouds or tornadoes, they can report them at 1-800-239-0484.
