The military base in Moose Jaw is cleaning up the Moose Jaw River after a sewer main line leaked on Friday afternoon.
The base noticed the leak just after 3:00 p.m. and it left a 55 metre plume of raw sewage on the ice of the river in the Wakamow Valley.
According to the Canadian Forces, the leak was caused by a crack in the line. Contractors from the base and an environmental group have put a temporary seal on the crack, and the contractors will be making repairs on the leak on Sunday.
The line comes out of 15 Wing and runs to the Moose Jaw Sewage Treatment Plant. The base says the main sewer valve was shut off after the leak was detected.
The base plans to test the water on Monday and will submit a proposal to the Ministry of Environment on full clean up plans.
