After a teenage girl was killed while working as a flag person on a highway southeast of Weyburn, the province vowed to get tougher on drivers who speed through construction zones. 

And motorists caught will pay the price.

The government announced a photo radar project that was put in place earlier this summer.  The base fine was also tripled.

Thoughout July and the first half of August, the RCMP have mailed out one thousand warnings to speeding motorists caught going too fast in construction zones.

Now, those warnings instead will be tickets. 

The tougher enforcement comes after 18 year old Ashley Richards was stuck and killed by a vehicle speeding through a construction zone on highway 39 near Midale in 2012.

Keith Dunford, who was 44 years old at the time of the accident, has been charged with dangerous driving causing death as well as criminal negligence causing death.  A trial for Dunford has been tenatively schedule for February of next year.
