Tips on how to reduce, reuse and recycle in Sask. this holiday season
The City of Regina is urging residents to recycle their holiday waste responsibly.
With the festive season here, officials recommend using reusable bags and wrapping paper to minimize landfill waste.
Plain tissue paper can be composted, but if it contains glitter or sparkles, it must be disposed of in the garbage. Bows and ribbons with shiny designs should also be placed in the trash.
“Paper gift wrap and cardboard boxes are recyclable, while tissue paper can go in your compost bin [as long as none of these items have glitter on them], and bows are always reusable,” the city said in a statement to CTV News.
Residents can also consult the city’s Waste Wizard for more information on how to sort waste items.
The city is also reminding residents that if their regular garbage pickup was scheduled for December 25th, it has been moved to Saturday, Dec. 28.
Holiday Reminders from Sarcan
Provincial recycler Sarcan is also sending out holiday reminders. The organization’s drop-off locations will be closed from December 25th through to Jan. 2.
Beginning in the New Year, residents will be able to bring glass food jars along with Styrofoam to Sarcan for recycling.
With the holiday closure, Sarcan recommends waiting to return recyclables until the New Year.
Sarcan plays a vital role in the province's recycling efforts, recycling 46 million pounds of goods annually and employing over 900 people across Saskatchewan.
