Regina police have charged two teens in connection with a firearm discharge over the weekend.

On Dec. 22, at around 3:30 p.m. police were dispatched to Higgins Bay, where officers observed two male youths fleeing the area on foot.

The two teens, aged 17 and 14, were arrested at a home on Oakview Drive. Ammunition was recovered during a search of the 17-year-old, while bear spray was found in the 14-year-old’s possession.

With help from the service’s canine unit, officers found a gun with ammunition in the area.

It is not believed anyone was injured in the firearm discharge. During the investigation however, officers discovered a 17-year-old female who was intoxicated and in breach of court ordered conditions.

She was also arrested and charged with one count of failing to comply.

The 17-year-old faces a total of five charges, including failure to comply, two counts of possessing a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, possessing a prohibited or restricted firearm and possessing a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized.

The 14-year-old was charged with possessing a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, possessing a prohibited or restricted firearm as well as possessing a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized.

The accused, who cannot be named in keeping with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, made their first appearances in youth court in Regina on Dec. 23.
