A wind warning has been lifted in southern Saskatchewan, but parts of the province remain under a severe thunderstorm watch.

Environment Canada says thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain are expected to develop over portions of central Saskatchewan on Wednesday afternoon. Funnel clouds are also possible.

A special weather statement is still in effect for the Ile a la Crosse, Buffalo Narrows and Beauval areas, with rain and thunderstorms expected over the next two days.

The heaviest rain is expected in the Buffalo Narrows region, where 30 to 50 millimetres is likely by the end of Thursday.

Strong northwesterly winds are expected to develop in the wake of the weather system Thursday. Areas near the Alberta border may see winds gusting to 70 km/h or higher.
