RCMP in Saskatchewan are investigating after a 12-year-old boy was assaulted by a man on his way home from school.

A masked man approached the student and punched him several times in the stomach while he was walking home from school in Lashburn on Monday.

The boy suffered minor injuries from the attack, which happened at the end of an alley near First Street West.

The suspect is described as a man in his mid-40s, six feet tall with greying hair. He was wearing blue jeans, brown boots an old-style goalie mask and a black jacket.

Mounties are advising students in the community to stay in well-lit areas and walk with a friend or in groups.
