Arguments are scheduled to begin this summer over whether a dangerous offender hearing should be held for a man convicted of beating and sexually assaulting his former roommate.

In February, a judge found Dustin Paxton guilty of aggravated assault and sexual assault.

On June 22, the same judge is to hear arguments over whether the Crown can request a psychological assessment.

If the judge grants that request, the Crown could be allowed to make an application to have Paxton declared as either a dangerous offender or a long-term offender.

Paxton could face an indefinite prison sentence if he is declared a dangerous offender.
