Explosions rang out and thick, black smoke could be seen for kilometres as crews battled a raging fire near Regina.

The blaze started in an outbuilding on a rural property near Highway 6 just south of the city late Tuesday afternoon.

As firefighters worked to contain the flames, several propane tanks began exploding inside the building.

The fire destroyed the structure, but crews got the blaze under control before it could spread to a nearby home.

No injuries were reported. The cause is under investigation.
