Nolan Tanner’s girlfriend testified Tuesday morning in the trial against his accused killer,

Tanner died after a fight broke out at a Halloween party in 2013. Elijah Noname is accused of second degree murder in his death.

Tuesday Alisha Sheepskin took the stand for the Crown, explaining her version of events that lead to Tanner’s death.

Sheepskin was dating Tanner at the time of his death, and in October 2013, the couple had a newborn baby.

Like other witnesses, Sheepskin testified she and Tanner attended a Halloween party at 517 Montreal Street. She said the party started to get out of hand, and eventually the guests were kicked out to the street, where Tanner and another guest started to fight. She told the jury Tanner hit or punched the other party guest, who in turn sprayed bear mace at the couple. She said as the fight continued, Elijah Noname took out a gun from his jeans and started to firing into the air.

Sheepskin told the jury once she heard gunshots, she and Tanner ran towards the back of the house. While running, she says she heard Noname firing behind them, and she heard Tanner yell in pain.

The couple split, with Sheepskin turning towards the other side of the house, but on the stand Sheepskin said Tanner continued to run towards the back alley of the house. Once the shots stopped, Sheepskin said she crawled through a window back into the house and found Tanner’s sister and together they went to look for him. Together, she said they found lying on the back lawn, gasping for breath.

During cross examination, the defense questioned Sheepskin on her ability to see what happened after the fight because of the effects of the bear spray. The defense also questioned Sheepskin about Noname’s clothing, questioning her whether he was wearing jeans or sweatpants.

The defense asked if Sheepskin saw Tanner stab Noname, and she said no. “I don’t think he’d risk losing his kid,” Sheepskin said.

Noname is expected to take the stand in his own defense later in the trial. Court resumes tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m.
