An online poll by CTV Regina suggests public opinion is split on whether students in the city should be able to choose which high school they attend.

The 24-hour poll showed 49 per cent of the nearly 600 people who voted believe students should be able choose which high school they go to.

Amid declining enrolment, Regina Public Schools announced in 2007 that it would allow students to choose which high school they attend.

However, that led to burgeoning numbers of students at popular schools and large declines in enrolment at others.

Public school officials have now decided that students should no longer be able to choose which high school they attend. Starting this September, students will be assigned to the high school that is closest to their home.
