Regina city council is adding its voice to calls for a national strategy on murdered and missing aboriginal women.

Regina is the latest city to call on Ottawa for a national action plan to deal with violence against women.

New statistics show aboriginal women are three times more likely to be a victim of violent crime.

RCMP confirm there have been over 1,200 cases of murdered or missing aboriginal women in Canada over the past 30 years.

The federal government has rejected previous calls to hold an inquiry.
