Two Regina men are facing charges after they allegedly led police on two separate pursuits.

Around 9:20 p.m., police spotted a vehicle that was travelling at a high rate of speed. Officers pursued the vehicle after it ran a red light, but the pursuit was called off after the vehicle failed to stop.

The vehicle was reported abandoned shortly after and was seized by police.

Around 4:10 a.m. Tuesday, police attempted to check a vehicle occupied by two men who were believed to have evaded police earlier. The vehicle failed to stop and police gave up the pursuit.

A short time later, police received a report about two men who were in a nearby backyard. A canine unit tracked down and apprehended one of the suspects, believed to be the driver, while officers arrested the second suspect. The driver was taken to hospital as a result of the arrest.

Police say a search of the vehicle turned up drugs, a weapon and items that were believed to be stolen.

Jarrett Riley Markel, 23, of Regina faces charges that include driving while ability impaired, evading police and failing to provide a breath sample. Twenty-two-year-old Albert Martin, also from Regina, has been charged with various drug, weapon and stolen property offences.

Both men were scheduled to make their first court appearance Tuesday.
