Saskatchewan brewers are hoping they won’t be left high and dry at Regina’s new stadium.

At a council meeting in Regina on Tuesday night, city officials confirmed that the Molson Coors brewing company already has an exclusive contract to provide beer at the new stadium.

Council says negotiations are underway to get access for locally produced beer.

City manager Chris Holden has to sign off on any contracts for the new stadium and on Tuesday he promised that local craft beers will be included.

"It is a community stadium, it was built by community funds, it is important that the community has an opportunity to be able to participate as much as possible in contributing to the delivery of food and beverages." Holden said.

Members of the local craft beer industry appeared before council, saying they still have no details on how vendors will be set up on the first game at the new stadium.

"They did say craft beer would be in the stadium, but we do not know the details around that, we do not know the percentage of sales we would get, and if it even makes sense for us to be there." Jamie Singer of the Saskatchewan Craft Brewers Association said after the meeting.

The home opener at Regina’s new stadium is on July 1, 2017.
