Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall is defending his government's decision to give an online food delivery company $3 million to expand its operation.

SkipTheDishes will receive the maximum funding allowed under a contract through the "Work Readiness Program."

The money will come from the Ministry of Economy and be paid over a two-year period. The move is expected to create 300 new jobs in the province and $10,000 will be provided for each employee.

Some of the new jobs will be in management, and administration. There will also be software developer positions.

If SkipTheDishes does not fulfill all of the hiring and training requirements, some of the money will have to be paid back.

Wall says the move is about training, creating jobs and diversifying the economy, but also adds the province won't be able to make a similar deal with a different company.

SkipTheDishes operates in 10 cities across Canada, including Saskatoon and Regina, and has expanded into four U.S. cities.
