A Saskatoon man has been sentenced to nine years in prison after a crash that claimed the life of a 72-year-old Regina man last year.

With credit for time already spent in custody, 42-year-old Brian Okemahwasin will serve seven years and seven months behind bars.

Okemahwasin pleaded guilty in January to impaired driving causing the death of Garry Tatham.

In June 2014, a vehicle driven by Okemahwasin slammed into the back of Tatham’s vehicle, which was stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of Albert Street and Sixth Avenue North. Tatham died at the scene.
