RCMP say five people have died in a three-vehicle collision north of Regina.
The fatal crash involving a pickup truck and two cars occurred on Highway 6 about 15 kilometres north of the city Tuesday morning.
Five adults, three men and two women, died at the scene. One male was the lone occupant of a 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche, while the four other victims were in a 2003 Subaru Outback.
Two adults, one male and one female, who were riding in a 2014 Ford Focus were taken to hospital in Regina with “undetermined” injuries, Saskatchewan RCMP said in a news release.
Highway 6 was closed in both directions and traffic was being rerouted around the scene until the road reopened around 4 p.m.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is still in its early stages, police said, and collision analysts are on the scene. RCMP spokesperson Mandy Maier said investigators are trying to determine whether drifting snow in the area was a factor in the crash.
Police are working to identify all of the victims and will have to notify next of kin before their identities are made public.
