It's been one year since a wicked tornado ripped through the Raymore area. For residents near Raymore and the Kawacatoose First Nation, the Canada Day long weekend brings back painful memories. Darin Poorman is the Chief of Kawacatoose First Nation says many of the residents are worried anytime a storm starts brewing ‘We've got a lot of people who are still looking to the clouds, looking to the sky when we got storms coming'.
On July 2, 2010, an F3 Tornado spun through the area, destroying everything in its path. Crews are still rebuilding foundations for the 18 homes that were leveled in the storm.
Band Councillor LeeAnne Thompson says the Kawacatoose First Nation community is working one day at a time, ‘we're rebuilding our homes and with the floods as well this year… so just to appreciate there was no loss of lives last year and to come together and knowing that it takes all of us to rebuild our community'.
On Saturday a feast was held on the Kawacatoose First Nation to mark the tragic event.
