Saskatchewan’s Water Security Agency says flooding is expected after heavy rainfall and record water levels prompted officials to open the dam on Anglin Lake.

The agency says it opened the dam north of Prince Albert on Saturday to reduce the impacts of the recent downpour and protect the dam itself.

Officials say the release of water is expected to cause the Little Red River to spill its banks and flood municipal infrastructure, such as bridges and roads, downstream of the dam.

The Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure will be monitoring water levels at the Highway 2 bridge over the river.

Communities and First Nations downstream from the dam have been notified about the high stream flows, and the agency says it will be in contact with them as the situation develops.
