Brenda Spencer can hardly believe her brother is gone.
Jamie Gallon died after being struck by a pickup truck Sunday night while he was cycling on Ross Avenue. The driver left the scene and has not been located.
"He was a good brother,” Spencer said. “He was a great father and Ashley, his daughter, was the apple of his eye."
Gallon, 42, moved to Regina several years ago, but grew up in Cambridge, Ont. and had recently decided to move back home to be closer to his new grandson.
"At 4 a.m. on Monday morning, I got the horrible knock on the door,” Spencer said. “(I) never thought in a million years that would be the news."
Spencer says gallon was an avid outdoorsman, physically fit and always riding his bike.
"It makes me sick,” she said. “I just don’t know how anybody can hit a human being and keep going on when he’s lying there."
Regina police say they are still talking to witnesses and reviewing security camera video from surrounding businesses. They are also still analyzing evidence collected at the site of the collision.
Investigators are looking for a 2009 to 2012 Ford F-150 truck, which likely has front-end damage. At this point, the cause of the collision is unknown.
"I don’t know, in this case, what happened,” said Regina Police Chief Evan Bray.
“But there are cases where it’s a legitimate accident and someone panics. Someone panics and flees the scene not knowing what has happened, what they hit. That can happen."
Gallon's family in Ontario has switched from planning his homecoming to planning his memorial.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise money for funeral expenses.
