March could come in like a lion in Saskatchewan, with Environment Canada predicting Friday night will be the coldest the province has seen this winter.

Temperatures are expected to plunge to -40C without the wind chill in some parts of Saskatchewan on Friday night.

“It’s going to be bloody cold,” Environment Canada meteorologist John Paul Cragg told CTV News on Wednesday.

“The transition from supposed winter to supposed spring is going to be, potentially, the coldest night of the season.”

Cragg said temperatures are expected to be below normal for the next three months as a jet stream continues to bring bitterly cold Arctic air to the province.

But he added that March could go out like a lamb in Saskatchewan, with warmer temperatures expected by the end of next month.
