A dangerous stretch of Saskatchewan highway is a bit safer thanks to the opening of new passing lanes.

The first set of lanes is now open between Regina and Corinne on Highway 6. The province plans to open 16 sets of passing lanes between Regina and Estevan on Highway 6 and 36.

The project is funded by the provincial and federal governments and will cost around $100 million.

Both governments are also investing in twinning portions of the highway south of Regina, north of Milestone and south of Weyburn.
