Police are looking for a suspect after a nurse was attacked and robbed after her shift at the Regina General Hospital.

Jennifer Legard was leaving work late Wednesday night when she was approached by a man.

“I was walking to my car and then he asked me ‘why are you out so late?’ and then proceeded to ask me if I knew where Cornwall Street was and was stuttering on his words,” Legard said. “I thought, you know, this isn’t going to turn out the greatest.”

Legard says she was getting into her car when the man grabbed the door, demanded a ride, then punched her and tried to get into the vehicle.

The attacker was scared off after Legard began honking the horn as another vehicle drove by. The man made off with her purse.

Legard says she no longer feels safe parking at the hospital. Her co-worker, Alyssa Frank, feels the same way.

“It’s kind of scary knowing that that can happen,” Frank said. “You’re supposed to feel safe leaving and going to work, and working at the hospital, you just don’t feel that at all.”

Ally Hoffman is also a nurse at the hospital and has had a similar scare.

“One day, I was walking back to my vehicle at the end of my shift, and someone was actually standing at the corner of the parking lot,” Hoffman said. “He was hollering for me to come over.”

The Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region has security and policies in place to protect its employees. The health region’s head of security, Barry Stricker, says it takes such incidents seriously.

“It’s most concerning that we hear about incidents where staff have come into harm’s way as they either are coming or leaving the facility to work,” Stricker said. “It always is of concern, at any time, when their personal safety is put in jeopardy.”

The suspect is described as 25 to 30 years old and about five-foot-nine with a dark complexion. He was wearing a black or grey toque, blue jeans and a black and brown jacket.

Anyone with information that could help in the investigation is asked to contact Regina police or Crime Stoppers.
