The people of Pasqua First Nation will soon be able to come together at a new facility.

On Tuesday, the community broke ground during a sod-turning ceremony, marking the start of construction for the new Pasqua Youth Recreation and Cultural Centre.

The building will be more than 2,000 square feet, offering lots of space to function as multi-purpose facility.

Several youths in the community say the new facility will make a positive change in their lives.

"By interacting, by being social with each other, (the community is) going to understand each other’s problems or whatever they want to share,” said Davion Thorne, a youth from Pasqua First Nation. “Or, if not, they can just go there to be with each other."

The Centre is one of 39 projects across the nation that is funded by Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada. INAC pledged a total of $750,000 for the project, which is part of the new federal budget.
