Police have issued a warning to the public after a string of credit card thefts in Regina.

Police say the suspects typically target an elderly victim in a public setting, dropping money to distract the victim.

In one attempt, police say a suspect pointed to a $20 bill near the victim. The victim opened their wallet to see if they had dropped the money and the suspect stole the victim’s credit card.

In another attempt, a suspect approached a person putting their groceries into a vehicle. The suspect told the victim that there was money under the vehicle while police say a second suspect stole the victim’s wallet. They returned the wallet to the victim later, saying the victim must have dropped it. However, police say the suspects had used the credit card and taken out money using the victim’s card.

Police there have been other incidents in the city lately, leading to thousands of dollars in withdrawals and purchases.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
