An investigation has been launched into the death of a person who was found following a residential fire in Regina.

The person's remains were discovered after a large fire destroyed a home on the 1500 block of McTavish Street early last Wednesday.

“At the time, the premises were searched as well as could be, given the extreme heat and the instability of the structure,” Regina police said in a news release Tuesday.

Police say the identity of the deceased is not yet known, and it isn’t possible to confirm the gender of the person at this point.

Investigators are waiting on results of an autopsy to help them identify the person who died. The house is currently being held as a potential crime scene.

Anyone with information that could help in the investigation is asked to contact Regina police or Crime Stoppers.
